Cliff Hanger

Good morning, ProviderNation.

In case you missed it, the American Health Care Association released its quality report yesterday. Lots of good news, and some interesting news, but the subtext here is that long term and post-acute care advocates, like many others in Washington, are nervously watching the capital veer toward the fiscal cliff. (Others are worried about the cliff’s impact on our beloved mother tongue.)

AHCA’s Mark Parkinson worried aloud yesterday that further cuts to the profession could push the sector past the “tipping point.”

Industry advocates have spent a good bit of their year making their case that long term and post-acute care isn’t just another line item. Now axes are falling from the sky here in Washington, so you can expect advocates to work a lot of overtime for the next six weeks.

In the meantime, though, Happy Thanksgiving.
