On Dementia and Consent…

Good morning, ProviderNation.

BloombergBusinessWeek talks about the elephant in the room: whether people living with dementia can consent to have sex.

It centers its piece on an Iowa skilled nursing center where employees—including its administrator Steve Drobot—were all unceremoniously fired after two of its residents were discovered in flagrante.

“It’s the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to live through,” Drobot tells Bloomberg.

The piece has the usual sneers about the profession (nursing homes “unprepared” for the question, “ignore” the problem, &c…), but it’s worth a look just the same.
