Sorry to have been away from my post for so long. I was working on a scintillating cover story for this month’s glossy. (Hint: it involves long term care.)

Boy, it’s been a rough week for Washington. First the government shuts down, then this.

Rest easy, though. The fine folks at CMS say that some of their survey functions will still be up and running, allowing with complaint investigations, “certain federal enforcement actions,” and revisits if they’re necessary to prevent termination of Medicare. Any vendor who won their contract before Oct. 1 will still get paid. Also, “CMS has been authorized to incur obligations up to an aggregate $8.6 million in Medicare funds” covering survey and certification in the states, the agency says.

So there’s that.
